Charlie | Opening Act Student (Manhattan)

Charlie discovered her love for performing while participating in her middle school’s musical and enjoyed the experience so much she entered an arts-focused high school. But before her junior year, Charlie transferred to a new high school that offered no theater or arts programming. Feeling disconnected from her passions, Charlie started to lose interest in her studies and began to struggle with her attendance. That all changed when she discovered Opening Act. “Opening Act motivated me to go to school because I knew in order to participate in the program I had to attend school. Opening Act has given me the opportunity to express my feelings like no other experience in my life. It has helped me find out so much about myself. Opening Act doesn’t teach you what to say, but it helps you discover what is inside of you and develop your voice.” Charlie’s experience in Opening Act has prepared her for life outside of high school. “The program helped me break out of my shell, taught me how to think on my feet, how to listen to people more, and just, made me a happier person. I have met so many talented people who make me want to be better.” After high school, Charlie plans on attending college to continue to pursue her love for performance.
