“I went from being quiet and reclusive to becoming a leading public speaker at my school.”

Franky | Opening Act Student (Bronx)

“Opening Act gave me a voice. It gave me a way to express myself and to make friends. I went from being quiet and reclusive to becoming a leading public speaker at my school. I host freshman orientation and moderate our town hall. I also won a public speaking competition.” To listen to Franky speak today you’d have a difficult time imagining the shy, reclusive freshman he describes. Franky has not only emerged as an eloquent and charismatic speaker, but as a leader whose newfound skills developed through Opening Act have had a meaningful impact on his entire school. Franky’s principal, Ignazio Accardi, reports, “our culture has been positively impacted by [Opening Act’s] presence in our school.” Franky also participates in Opening Act’s Student Leadership Council (SLC), where he performs with Opening Act students from programs all across the city who’ve demonstrated exemplary leadership, commitment, and dedication to the program. “SLC and Opening Act made me more ambitious and helped me focus my energy. It exposed me to more people and prepared me for the real world. I feel like a professional actor and it’s an incredible feeling.”
