Michael Irish is a performer, artist, and educator from California who moved to New York nearly a decade ago to further his career in acting. He is a proud member of Actors Equity, and is thrilled to join the Opening Act team this year, having served as a teaching artist with the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival for the last two years (soon to begin his third year). Back in California, he majored in Theater at the University of California, Santa Cruz, graduating in 2003. While there, he completed an acting internship with Shakespeare Santa Cruz, and several years later (back in Southern California) a conservatory program at South Coast Repertory. Michael has worked extensively on stage with many theater companies on both coasts, and has also done some film, as well as voice-acting work in animation. More often than not, he finds himself doing Shakespeare plays, and he could not be happier. He studies stage combat regularly, frequently putting his skills to use in both performance and education. From time to time, he also serves behind-the-scenes as an assistant fight coordinator.
