Director of Development
Yvonne Roen (she/they)
Somewhere between creating political satire, performing absurdist plays, and writing a musical about mathematical concepts, Yvonne built a practice as a teaching artist. Her trauma informed approach centered student voices and creative skill and provided a springboard to arts education program creation and administration.
From 2012 – 2022 she built and delivered programs in New York and New Jersey including a year-long after school curriculum which used theater to explore themes of migration and immigrant experience through young people’s eyes; a conflict resolution process drama for second graders; and a Youth Theater in the Greenville section of Jersey City. Yvonne’s work as both an artist and educator has allowed her to see firsthand how high-quality arts programming provides some of the best life-skills training available to young people.
Beginning in 2018 she combined that knowledge with her well-honed storytelling abilities to engage funders with arts education and theater and, over the next few years, became increasingly adapt at development work. Yvonne relies on the collaborative skill, empathetic viewpoint, ability to adapt, and understanding of the symbiotic relationship between freedom and structure she learned as an actress, director, writer, and educator to help her build and nurture relationships in her role as a development professional.
(She’s also known among friends as a baker.)
