Summer Stage Highlights from Z!

Opening Act

Dear Opening Act Community,

I hope you’re all enjoying the summer and finding some time to rest, recharge, and connect with loved ones! Our staff, teaching artists, students, and alums have been hard at work in the office, the classroom, and on stage continuing to create art against the odds – and I just had to take a few moments to share with our incredible community (including YOU!) a quick sneak peak of what we’ve been up to this summer!

Honing their craft!

For the first time ever, we welcomed a cohort of Opening Act middle school students into our 3-week Summer Arts and Leadership Conservatory! Our high school and middle school SALC students have been diving into play-making and acting technique, and we are so proud of the hard work and dedication they’ve shown over the last few weeks! #YESAND

Young artist development!

Opening Act has been selected by the NYC Department of Education to teach in their Summer Arts Institute, helping prepare middle school students who want to audition for the city’s performing arts high schools! It’s been an honor to share Opening Act curriculum with even more middle school students than ever before! #INCLUDE

Industry exposure!

Modelled after showcase opportunities given to graduates of BFA and MFA programs, fourteen Opening Act Alumni prepared pieces for our Alumni Showcase which will be distributed to industry professionals including agents, managers, and casting directors. These OA alums are going places! #RESPECT

Join the fun!

Hi Noon Improv – our weekly 30-minute virtual improv boost open to everyone, everywhere – launched over a year ago as part of #OPENINGACTFORALL, and it’s still going strong! Join us every Thursday at noon. All you have to do is #SHOWUP!

I feel like a record on repeat, but I have to say it once again – none of this would be possible without YOU, our unwavering community of Opening Act supporters. Thank you for your dedication to our students and alums, and for ALL you do to ensure that Opening Act can continue creating stages and empowering lives!

Onwards and upwards!

Zareta Ricks, Executive Director
